Letterpress Printmaking

In the fall of 2018, I created a series of letterpress prints using a Vandercook SP150 letterpress printing machine. Wood type appeals to me for its organic qualities and the subject matter I was working with dealt very much with my connection to nature. I began with a blind embossing of a word, which would take various forms in print. The second layer is an inked print of that word that I then singed with fire. The final layer consists of topographical photos of glaciers, mountains or streams, all of which served as backdrops for some impactful events in my life. This piece is part of a series entitled, Takotsubo Sequence 1.
